A Children's Charity After My Own Heart

Down in Houston, recently ravaged by hurricane Ike, Texas Children's Cancer Center is working with a number of local and far-flung websites in a fund raiser marathon scheduled for October 18, 2008. This isn't the sort of marathon where one runs, however; participants in the "Extra Life" charity drive will spend 24 consecutive hours playing video games. Anything from the newest games on the Playstation 3 and the XBox 360 to the humble poker game bundled on most mobile phones is acceptable, and players have registered from all over the States and from abroad. The organizers are hoping to register 1000 participants with four 1$/hour sponsors each - I may not be great at math, but that seems to me to mean that they're looking to bring in around $96,000 to benefit the cause.

Stories like this always make me smile a bit, and having one be relevant enough to merit posting here on the G.W. Medical Publishing blog is an extra treat. If you're interested in providing sponsorship for a gamer or in participating yourself, please click here. You can also check out the charity's official site.
