We Do So Apologize
John and I realized today that we haven't posted anything on the blog in a month or so; it wasn't a conscious decision on our part, just a lot of work trying to get the Intimate Partner Violence book ready for press. When that finishes, we'll be moving on to the Child Fatality Quick Reference; it seems there's quite a rush in the G.W. office this holiday season.
That said, I wanted to write a note to let everyone know that we haven't discontinued this page and that we do intend to regain some regularity in our posting schedule (we may even bring back the Friday news updates). We do very much appreciate your understanding in this manner; every scrap of text that comes in here ends up on either John's or my desk at some point, and we've had quite a lot to look over these last few weeks. Also, we've been amping up development on a new product line that I won't be detailing just yet, but which we hope will be extremely useful to our many loyal customers.
Since I haven't posted about my trip to Vancouver yet, I may as well let you all know that it was a shockingly enjoyable trip. I'm always happy to hobnob with authors, and had the great pleasure of meeting with Lori Frazier, Randy and Sandra Alexander, Leigh Bishop, Angelo Giardino, Carole Jenny, Deanna St. Germain, and a host of other contributors. It was disheartening that Philip Wheeler was unable to attend, mostly because of the health issues that prevented him from traveling. Hopefully, he'll be back to full strength again in the very near future.
I've done a lot of traveling, both before I came on here and in my capacity as managing editor, and I have to say that Vancouver is a new addition to my very short list of favorite cities. It's right up there with Chicago, Rochester, Busan, Hiroshima, and Tokyo. As a Midwesterner, I am entirely unused to the quality of seafood one gets on the coast; it is always a very welcome surprise. Also, I was fortunate enough to run into an artist from Radical Entertainment, one of Vancouver's many video game studios, and spend an evening discussing vector math and graphics programming.
For those of you who aren't in the know, I have a deep and abiding love for video games stretching back to my childhood Intellivision days. It's unhealthy, really.
So, the trip was wonderful and I would gladly do it again - particularly if I were able to find some way to extend my stay a bit. I would love to have an opportunity to sample more of Vancouver's exceptional food.
